THE LOS ANGELES WOMEN OF COMEDY (LAWC)
LAWC
is a nonprofit organization founded in 1999 and dedicated to raising
money for cancer charities through stand-up comedy benefits and other
theatrical performance projects. Maria Menozzi founded LAWC in honor and memory
of friend and fellow comedian, Alyce Faye Sewell, who founded the original
Motor City Women of Comedy, and helped to raise thousands of dollars
for the Detroit Gilda’s Club before she passed away from cancer in 1999.
The LAWC has successfully produced four comedy benefits for Gilda's
Club Seattle and Gilda's Club Desert Cities:
2000 Giggle For Gilda's, JR's Comedy Club, Valencia, CA
2001 Giggle For Gilda's, The Improv, Hollywood, CA
2003 Giggle For Gilda's, Martini Blues Supper Club, Huntington Beach, CA
2006 Giggle For Gilda's, Burbank Realtors' Assn., Burbank, CA
