  MARIA MENOZZI BIO

Maria Menozzi was a classically trained vocalist before someone yelled out, "Hey, you should do comedy," during a recital performance. Her smart, clever, observational stand up quickly led her to the top comedy clubs all over the country.

After several years of performing, Maria finally added musical comedy to her act. With her trusty acoustic guitar, “Abner Bibberman”, her original comedy songs are musical fun for everyone, including "Small Boobs in LA", "Please Don’t Make Me Eat Sushi" and the crowd sing-along favorite, "The Masturbation Song."

Maria performed as part of the U.S. Comedy Invasion Tour at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland, UK.

She is an award-winning playwright for her children’s play, "The Poet Who Wouldn’t Be King," published by Players Press and available on Amazon.com.

Her comedy short films, "The Adventures of Zoey, Parts 1 and 2: A Pain in the Basket and My Left Feet" were the Comedy Short Film Winners at the 2004 Telluride IndieFest in Telluride, Colorado.

Maria made her directorial debut on the dramatic short film, "Mrs. Merriam’s Moment" which she also wrote and produced. Her film company, Zoey811 Films, is currently working on two new projects "The Husband Audition," a romantic comedy short film, and "Secretaries’ Day," a sitcom webisode pilot.

Maria trained initially with Carol Goodheart at HB Studio in New York City and in Detroit at Second City with Larry Joe Campbell, who starred on the ABC sitcom, "According to Jim." She is currently training at the Hull Actors Studio in Santa Monica.

Her autobiographical play based on her Italian Catholic blue-collar family growing up in Detroit, "Genius From a Blue Collar Neighborhood," had its World Premiere at the Santa Monica Playhouse in August 2011 to great audience response and positive reviewsMaria founded the 811 Theater Project through her production company, Zoey811 Productions to help produce other solo works she is working on and another production of “Genius…” in 2012.

Maria is also a certified substance abuse counselor (CAADAC, CADCA) and uses her intuitive gifts for guidance and counseling.  For more information on intuitive guidance, click here.

Maria teaches solo play classes and workshops through the 811 Theater Project.  For more information, check out her information page, click here.

COMMENTS ABOUT THE ARTICLE:

I could'nt (sic) have expressed it better myself.
— Thanks, Wendell

Hi marie - Thank you for the words you wrote - At last someone has again said what I've been hearing too all along - Stay in touch, we'll let
each other know what's the latest
— Ciao, Joe

This is so great, Maria. Our readers are really going to relate to what you've written. And thanks for writing it during such a difficult time (Maria notes: My father died that July.).
— Lauren Horwitch, Backstage West

Maria,
Just read your Talk Back piece in Backstage and feel compelled to thank and congratulate you. There's nothing I would add to it - you make a clear, specific point with great examples in a concise piece. It left me identifying and shaking my head, saying, "She's so right, the attitude is ridiculous!" The SAG statistics cap it. Great work, I'm sure many actors will be thankful for the shot of commonsense. Perhaps even a discourager or two will rethink their attitude.
— Best regards, Ken (a New York actor)

Hi, THANK YOU for such a great article. I have been in many a situation very similar to the ones you have written about. I'm contacting friends who have ALSO been through the same and telling them to read your column. It really is frustrating and you hit it on the head (if only we could "bop" the heads of the people trying to discourage us).
— With regards, Michael

Dear Maria; My name is Mark and I too am an actor-comedian-impressionist here in LA. I really enjoyed reading your "Only serious actors need apply" column this morning. Forget the nay sayers as you so elequently stated in your article.
— Blessings, Mark

Hi Maria! I just read your article in Backstage and had to email you to say - right on! I could have substituted my name and the scenario would be exactly the same (except I've probably heard it longer than you - ouch!)
Thanks Maria - and your website is great -
— Stay strong, Marina

I LOVE YOU for writing your article in backstage "only serious actors need apply!!!!!
I have been so sick of the negative statistics I almost stopped buying the trade papers!!!
But THANK YOU for standing up for us- We need that voice to say- This isn't what I do it's who I am and I'm not quitting no matter what "they" all say. I really needed to hear that. So Thanks,
— A fellow actress & aspiring writer, Brittany

Hi Maria, I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed your editorial in Backstage. In every industry there is a starting point for everyone. And everyone has a dream that can become a living reality. Thanks again for a great editorial!
— Mark

Hi Maria,
I just read your article in BackStage. It has happened before that I've come across an article by an artist who wants to express what you did there. This is how most of us feel, as you know, but I just wanted to take a moment to tell you that you did it exceptionally well and in a lot fewer words than most would need. Thank you. I'm not familiar with your work, but this will certainly change.
— Thank you, and my best regards, Mick Rene

Dear Maria,
What an AMAZING article you wrote in Backstage West this week. What you wrote needed to be said, and I hope it brings some comfort and encouragement and a moment of peace or two to the actors who are going to read it. Thanks for the terrific article and the guts it took to write it.
— Sincerely, Alan

Hi Maria
Allow me to say a BIG thank you for your recent Talk Back section in Backstage West!! Good going!!! I wholeheartedly agree with everything you mentioned from negative industry folk. I too have had my fair share of these types. …All I can say is think positive, avoid negative types and keep following your dreams! I loved your site - BIG congrats to you. You are doing wonderfully and you are going to make it BIG.
— Peace, Joanne
PS It amazes me too about SAG and how they like to remind us that many of their members are unemployed.

kudos for telling it like it is.
— Sincerely, Richard

Hi Maria,
I just wanted to thank you for your great article in Back Stage this week! I checked out your website and am inspired by all the projects you have going on! Anyway, thanks again for your article. It was nice to hear that I'm not the only one going through this.
— Cathy

Hi! I read your column with interest and have to say that I think you're right on. It literally boggles my mind to think of how much daily crap actors are supposed to put up with as a matter of course and take no offense at any of it. Anyway, thanks for your time and for your column. I appreciate both.
— Regards, Fred DeRuvo

Dear Ms. Menozzi,
What a beautiful, invigorating breath of fresh, positive air you shared! Your "Talk Back" in BackStage last week gave me that push I needed today to keep at it. Thank you for taking the time to remind all of us that there is no glory in playing it small and being negative. You are not afraid to Shine, and thanks for lighting me back up with your words!
— Sincerely, Stephanie

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. Your article is outstanding. Again many thanks and best of luck.
— Wayne Rudisill

Hello! I do subscribe to Backstage magazine and in the most recent one, you published an article about how negative people are in our business. It was beautifully written, well stated and just, well, EXCELLENT! I loved it and I just wanted to let you know that!
— Your new fan, Jennifer M.

Hi Maria,
I read your article in the "backstage west" titled "Only serious actors need apply". As an aspiring actor living in L.A. I can totally relate to what you were saying. Man, can't believe the acting coach said to you: "you work so hard for someone that will probably never make it".
— All the best., Adam. ;-)

HI: THANK YOU for such a great article.
— With regards, Michael

Maria, I'm just catching up on reading some past issues of Backstage and just came across your article. LOVED IT!Thanks so much for putting those thoughts in print. Thanks.
